Devlyn all but ran down the hall way. His heart pounded loudly in his chest, his entire body shook from the nerves that were starting to find their way to his mind. His eyes set on his sister as she walked out of the room. He nearly rammed into Akari when he heard the faint sounds of screams coming from inside.
"H-how is she? I just heard, T-Tristan called me. I-"
Akari laughed and placed her hands on his shoulders. "Devy bear. . . you're going to be a father soon. Don't worry, just relax." Her smile was tender and sincere and it did somewhat calm him. . . until he heard the next round of screams. Devlyn was sure he was as pale as a sheet of paper, he didn't know what to do. Should he go in? Stay out here? Run laps around the fucking castle?
"Dev.... Dev?... DEVLYN!" He jumped at the sound of his sisters voice. Hells fucking rings, did she have to be so loud? "Go in there. She'll need your-"
"Devlyn! We have a situation!" The sound of Draven's voice immediately drew his attention. The male dashed towards him, his face giving no clue to how bad the situation was but his eyes. . . it was bad.
"What?"
"Kieren. He's here with hell's fucking army."
The blood in Devlyn's veins might as well have frozen, his muscles refused to move and his mind was momentarily taken aback. He dared threaten my family?!
"Dev? What do you want us to do? Dev?" His attention snapped back to Draven, his gaze holding every bit of the anger he felt boiling his blood.
"Get the others now! I want my father and uncle to be notified, I'll need their assistance in this. Akari," He turned to his sister, her expression full of worry.
"What would you have me do, Devy?"
Before he responded, the sound of Airn's labor cries drew his full attention. Everything inside him screamed for him to be there for her, to go in and watch the birth of their daughter. But of course, he was denied even that by Kieren. All his mind could focus now was how he was going to protect his family from the demon's clutches.
"Akari, I need you to be in there with mother and help Airin as much as possible. Don't let her know what's happened, she's got enough to worry about."
Akari nodded, her eyes holding some emotion he couldn't place. "What do I tell her when she sees you're not there?"
"Just think of something, Kari. I have to go." Before he could talk himself out of it, he turned away from the one place he wanted to be and dashed back down the hall way. He reached for his cell phone and dialed Tristan's number. He answered after one tone. "Your gear is here. Get to the front of the castle as fast as you can. Your father and uncle are already here but there are a shit load of demons. Hurry." Right.
Devlyn willed a dark portal opened and jumped through it into fucking armageddon. Chaos rang all around him as the sound of battle rand through the chilled night air. He was instantly greeted by the sound of a blade coming towards him. He easily dodged it, his hand quickly snapping upwards to take the weapon from the demon and turn it against him. The head splitting shriek from the creature was cut short as Devlyn swung the heavy sword across its neck, severing its head clean off.
His eyes quickly searched around for any sign of his team or familiar, but it was hard to make out a single face in the fray.
"Devlyn!" His attention was immediately drawn towards the sound of his uncles voice. The male pulled his weapon out of a lifeless corpse as he made his way towards his nephew. Raige's face was riddled with the blood of the enemy. It lay all over his chest and across his arms, reminding Devlyn of the mercenary that still lived within his uncle.
"Devlyn, here."He handed Devlyn his twin blade and a telecom. "Your armor is lost, you'll have to fight without it. Try not to shift, it'll only leave you more vulnerable." Devlyn didn't have to be told twice. He nodded his understanding and placed the telecom in his ear and quickly unsheathed his blades.
Devlyn called upon a dark fog to help cover them in battle. Raige and Devlyn fought side by side, working in flawless harmony until Devlyn broke away in search of the bastard in charge. He was blinded by the fury that ran in his very blood. The only reason he didn't completely lose it was because his wolf reached out in longing for Ri. The pain she felt and the fear that consumed her had Devlyn ready to run back to her side, but he knew he couldn't. And if he couldn't be there to comfort her, the least he could do was take her pain and fear away. He let his wolf reach through the bond to her as Devlyn sliced down any demon in his path. The darkness within him was the perfect tracking decvice. He could sense Kieren's signature amongst the endless bodies of demons. Devlyn closed in at the farthest side of the battle field. Of course, the bastard would sit back and watch everything from the side. He had a sick sense of entertainment that Devlyn was just about ready to end.
"Kieren!" Devlyn called out to him. The demonic Prince response was only a smile as he stood to face him.
He was cocky, already thinking he had won. He didn't even care that Devlyn had found him, nor did he look concerned. It pissed Devlyn off to no extent.
"You dare threaten my family, and come into my home?! This is where I draw the line you filthy bastard. I will end you, here and now."
"Devlyn, I only came here for one thing. And that, is your precious. . . little. . . daughter."
Devlyn snapped at those words. No, he wouldn't get to her, not while he was still breathing.
He called his darkness to him, letting it infuse with the blades in his hands. Kieren called his own weapon, a large, red, scythe.
They lunged for each other, their weapons slamming into each other, creating sparks as the friction grew with each strike. Devlyn's focus was solely on Kieren, knowing that one slip up would mean certain death.
"Come on, Devlyn. Is this all you've got?" His response was only a grin. I've got you right where I want you. Of course, this time Devlyn had a plan, he was reckless, but when it came to his family. . . he took no chances. He drew Kieren's attention, giving him the appearance of blindly attacking out of anger. He made his attacks sporadic, letting Kieren claim small victories over him to fuel his confidence. Devlyn winced at the wounds that now covered his body, but they were not enough to slow him down in the slightest. He bid his time, searching for the perfect opening. . . and it could not have come at a better time.
Kieren laughed, his scythe coming down at an arc towards Devlyn, leaving the demon wide open for an attack. He moved his swords up at once, locking Kieren in a hold. His body twisted from the momentum and knocked him down underneath Devlyn. Without a moment's hesitation, Devlyn's clawed hand came down on the demon as it wielded every bit of energy he could muster. Kieren had only enough time to shift his weapon enough to catch Devlyn's ribs before his hand smashed through his chest and opened a portal from within the Demon Prince.
Devlyn smirked down at the bastard as he relished in the fuckers expression. "You dont. . . ever. . . threaten my family."

His Blue Roses
Devlyn sat on the edge of his bed, staring at nothing in particular. His thoughts lost in the future. It was a girl. A little baby girl. Star had told them but three days ago and already Devlyn and Airin were already stocking enough supplies to last their child until adulthood. . .and then some.
"Man," Tristan brought his attention to him. "It's insane how you don't even flinch at pain." He cast him a smug grin as he pressed the needle of the tattoo machine a little harder against his skin. Getting no response from Devlyn, he shook his head and continued with the design.
Tristan was the best tatoo artist Devlyn knew, in fact, he was responisble for the dragon he sported around his torso. A dragon that turned Airin on every time she saw it.
"Ah, love. Makes even the most emotionless men go completely overboard."
"What are you mumbling about, Tris?"
"Oh nothing, only that before your lovely mate, no one could read you. Not even when you actually told people when you were angry. . . about the only emotion you would ever sport anyway. And now, you're as open as a book."He smirked. "I can tell when you think of her. Your eyes reflect so much that was missing before. I'm happy for you."
"Oh, don't get fucking emotional with me, Tris. Get back to work." They both laughed, knowing everything Tristan had said was true. Airin had forever changed his life. And now, she was giving him yet another reason to live. His little daughter would be the center of their entire universe. Already, the wolf within him seemed to purr at the idea of starting a family. Every time he thought about the birth of his daughter, a sort of protectiveness arose strongly within him.
She wasn't even born and already she held a part of him he thought only Ri would ever hold.
"Done. Why don't you go check it out." Tris pulled away to allow Devlyn to walk over to the mirror across the room. Drawing the thing for Tris was one thing. . .but man. . .actually seeing it etched on his skin was another thing.
Right above his heart, lay an intricate blue rose. It's petals as delicate as the person it represented, and almost as beautiful. Devlyn knew no matter how good of an artist Tristan was, the rose could never compare to his precious Airin. But that tattoo was done some time ago. The one that held his attentio now, was the smaller one.
He couldn't help the smile the crossed his features as he saw the detail Tristan had put into it.
It melted in with the blue rose, almost so that it looked as if the blue rose were embracing it. The shading made it look luminous, as if it actually held light within its small small petals. Tristan outdid himself with the image and Devlyn couldn't be more grateful to him.
"Perfect." It was. The two things he now held dear and close, would always be near his heart.

Betrayl
"Devlyn, Airin is waiting you know." His best friends voice brought his attention away from the computer screen. Tristan stood at the doorway of his office, his eyes reflecting the concern he felt. Devlyn knew his friend worried for him. Ever since Kieren had attempted to take his daughter at her birth. . . he had spent endless nights perfecting security and tracking down the damned demon. Everyday, he woke up in fear that he would find Ri and Elysia gone. It was his worst fear, and despite the reassurance of his squad, Devlyn could not rest.
"I know." He blew out an exasperated breath. He knew. . .
"Come on. I promised her that I wouldn't let you work yourself to death. Your nerves are making her nervous too, you know."
He nodded absently. He knew that too. He should learn to relax a bit, but his wolf and mind wouldn't allow it.
"Just five minutes. Go on, Draven and I got this." At the mention of the wolf walked in, two coffees in hand.
Right. He didn't think there was a choice in the matter. Reluctantly, Devlyn nodded and left towards his family. It literally seemed physically painful to leave the base and a sense of dread settled in his mind. At least he was grateful Kieren hadn't continued his torment. For now, he was quiet.
"Baba!" Every problem in the world melted away at the vision of beauty before him. Airin walked up to him, a gorgeous smile adorning her face as she struggled to keep little Elysia in her arms.
"Baba!" His daughter squealed as she finally leapt into his arms.
"Hello, my little rose." He nestled her against him, her little arms came around his neck as she placed a delicate little kiss on his nose.
"Baba!"
"She's been calling for you all day you know. She misses her baba." His eyes turned lovingly to his wife. Shifting Ely into one hand, he outstretched the other for Airin to take. He brought her in, kissing her deeply. Gods, he really would never get used to her.
"Eww!" Ely placed her hand between her mother and father, her clear distaste for their affection making both Dev and Airin laugh.
"No." She wiggled in his arms and Ely, quite selfishly took his face in her chubby little hands and gave him a serious glare.
"Oh, seems that she doesn't like you kissing me, Devy. She's a bit possessive."
"Oh? And why is that, my little darling?"
Elysia frowned as if his question insulted her. "My baba!"
"She's trying to steal you from me."Airin teased.
"I think it's working. I mean, those eyes, are just breathtaking." Devlyn grinned at Ri, winking as he brought her in for another kiss.
"No!" Ely protested again.
"Alright, you win!" Airin took Ely back, holding her up as she blew kisses into her little stomach.
Amazing. . . I have to be the luckiest guy in the world.
"Oh, Devy, are you going shopping with us?"
"Shopping?"
"Yes. . . oh, Devlyn Blake Wolfheart, did you forget. . . again?"
"N-no." He casually turned away from her, unable to meet her glare.
"Devlyn, you promised. You're always so busy, Ely and I miss you you know."
I know. . .he wanted to say. But he couldn't find his voice. He was just too. . . tightly wound. His nerves were always at their worst, and he found himself fearful with spending too much time with them. What if Kieren used him to get to them? He could never forgive himself if something happened because of him. No, he couldn't and wouldn't live with himself if that happened.
"Devy?"
"I can't, I'm sorry, Ri. I have to deal with politics and security. You know we have a treaty coming up with the northern clan, I cannot drop the ball on this. I want to be with you, I do. . . but duty calls you know?" Ok, half of the stuff he just spewed out was bullshit. . . but he really did have a treaty coming up. Sure, it wasn't until next month, but it was a damned good excuse. Right?
"Devy, you look so tired. I'm worried for you. You don't eat, you don't sleep. Don't think I don't notice. " Of course she noticed. He turned his eyes to hers. His body shifting uncomfortably as it battled with the emotions raging inside. His heart really wanted nothing more to spend time with her, he missed her too. Every moment he was away from her was torture. He missed her kind smile, her mesmerizing gaze, and that light that shone brightly in every expression she had. But he couldn't. He knew. I have to keep you safe.
"I promise, swear on my life, I will accompany you next time you want to go somewhere, ok?" He smiled sincerely, hoping that she wouldn't press further.
I have to protect you.
"I know." He blew out an exasperated breath. He knew. . .
