Brave

What is she doing? He wondered as he watched the young vampire princess climb up with grace and agility. The tree stood almost proud in the forest. Its long, thick branches shooting out, casting a great shadow to the earth below.
Only a few braved an attempt to climb its massive bark to the top, even less dared to jump down.
And yet, he found himself observing the little vampire climb higher and higher until finally, she stopped.
What are you doing, Airin? He wondered, seeing as she dangled her legs over a branch and sighed.
He could have turned back and just left, he had no business following her out here and yet . . . he stayed.
Several hours passed, in which time Airin made several attempts to get down. She would yelp loudly when ever she was about to slip, which caused Devlyn to have several mini heart attacks. He grew worried that she could not get down from the height. . . why would she climb something she knew she could never get down from?
This continued on until nightfall. The moon shone brightly above in the night sky, stars were spread out over the black canvass. Devlyns watchful eye never left her for a moment. He watched as she sat down on a ledge, drawing her knees up and bury her head in between them. Her long, blue tinted hair glowed white in the moonlight, he noted. During this time he also noted other features that he had neglected before. The grey of her eyes betrayed her every emotion, fear. . . anxiety. . . anger and frustration. Her petite form was not to be taken lightly, great strength dwelled within her, truly, when she reaches maturity she would make a powerful vampire.
Her hands were small and delicate, her gaze intense, her cheek bones fell into a heart shaped face. Her lips ful and lush. . .. She was truly beautiful in Devlyn's eyes, he was sure that she would make a wonderful mate for a vampire one day. And yet, he found himself growing angry at the thought of her in another males arms. His wolf equally expressing its disapproval of the idea. The very notion had Devlyn moving towards the tree's base, his head tilted up to locate Airin.
"D...Devy?!" She called down, her expression turning from fearful to relieved.
He didn't respond. He had made it clear to her he never liked that nick name, he was never the type to give such foolish things a thought. The name you are given is the name that is to be used, out of respect and decency.
He closed his eyes, summoning a viel of darkness that took him up to her branch.
"Y..you came? Oh... Devy, i'm so glad-"
"Silence, Airin." She immediately shut her mouth, her gaze drawing downward as she fiddeled with her hands.
He took her into his arms, an almost silent gasp escaped her lips as she instinctively threw her arms around his neck and buried her face within. He jumped effortlessly from branch to branch, carrying her down until he landed swiftly onto the ground below.
"Thank you. . "She mumbled as she slide down. . . and yet, his hands remained gently on her hips. The proximity of her body sending his heart tino a rapid acceleration as if it would somehow burst out of his chest. And yet, on the exterior, the young wolf prince remained calm, and cold towards her, never once showing a shred of his emotion.
"Be careful next time." Those were his last words before he vanished from her grasp in a shroud of darkness.
